(Topic does not have to be Titus County Fair related.)

Competition Schedule 

Sunday, September 25th
2:30 p.m. 6th Grade
4:30 p.m. 7th/8th Grade
***The 7th and 8th grade contests has been combined into a single event.***

Monday, September 26th
7:00 p.m. 2nd Grade
8:30 p.m. 5th Grade

Tuesday, September 27th
6:00 p.m. - 3rd grade
8:30 p.m. - 4th grade
 

 

Contest Guidelines
1.  Grades 2-4  Time Limit: 1-2 Minutes
     Grades 5-8  Time Limit: 3-4 Minutes

2.  Competition site:  North Ridge Church of Christ Auditorium
     
3.  Face & hand expressions ONLY.  NO costumes or props!!!

4.  Schools are responsible for selecting top 3 candidates in each grade. (NO ALTERNATE)

5.  The 7th grade Speech contest and the 8th grade Speech contest will be combined in a single contest.:  7th/8th grade Speech contest.  Even though there is only one contest, schools may still send 3 candidates from each grade level.  For example, three students from 7th grade and three students from 8th grade may all compete in the 7th/8th grade contest.  If the coordinator feels that participation warrants it, she can choose to award grade levels separately.

6.  All contestants should arrive 15 minutes early for their contests.

7.  Winners will be announced immediately following the judges' decision.

8.  Each contestant will be assigned a number.

9.  Contestants may use notes.  SECOND graders may read their speech.  Contestants should be able to present their speeches without help.  If a contestant receives help, (through mouthing the words, hand gestures, etc.), it could result in point deductions. 

10.  There will be a time penalty of one (1) point per second over/under time limit.  Limit twenty (20) points. 

11. There will be door monitors and holding rooms for contestants.

12. An adjustable podium and a speaker system will be provided.

13. Small children should be left out of the speaking room.  Visitors/Listens will be allowed to enter and exit between speeches.  Room will be cleared after each grade level.

14. There will be timekeepers, door monitors, three judges, and a person to greet and register each contestant.

15. Participants will receive a ribbon.  First place in each grade level will receive a $30 Walmart Gift Card, Second place will receive a $20 Gift Card and Third place will receive a $10 Gift Card.

16 Free tickets will be given to each participant and their parents that are present.
